Life Is Not Just What We Build… It’s What We Allow Ourselves to Experience.
I spend my days helping dentists prepare for one of the most emotional transitions of their lives. Selling a practice isn’t just a business move — it’s identity, purpose, and decades of routine.
Being around that level of emotion on the daily has made me ask myself a hard question too: “Who am I outside of my work?”
I love what I do — truly. I’m a workaholic in the best way. But the thought of my own “next chapter” honestly made me a little uneasy. If I wasn’t doing this work… what would I pour myself into? So I decided to try something I’ve wanted for years: Dance lessons
I finally told myself, If not now… when?
When we do, transitions feel heavier and scarier than they need to be.
Having something outside of work makes the entire journey easier.
It helps you:
-
Stay emotionally balanced
-
Ease anxiety around “what comes next”
-
Make clearer decisions
-
Move into the next chapter with confidence instead of fear
Men and women often feel this differently — but both feel it deeply.
Men often:
-
Tie identity closely to career
-
Worry about losing relevance
-
Have fewer social outlets outside work
Women often:
-
Feel guilty about stepping back
-
Put others first for years
-
Struggle to give themselves permission to slow down
Different stories, same emotional reality.
Dance reminded me of that joy isn’t a distraction — it’s part of being whole.
Work is meaningful — but it can’t be the only place we find meaning.
